Statistical Technique Hikes Nanotechnology Data Precision
A new statistical analysis technique can identify and remove systematic bias, noise, and equipment-based artifacts from experimental data and could lead to more precise and reliable measurement of nanomaterials and nanostructures.

SIAM Proceedings on Data Mining 2001-2008
Data mining is an important tool in science, engineering, industrial processes, healthcare, business, and medicine. SIAM Conferences on Data Mining provide a venue for researchers who are addressing these problems to present their work in a peer-reviewed forum.  Free access to all the papers.

SIAM Workshop on Algorithm Engineering and Experiments (ALENEX) 2006-2008
Original research in the implementation and experimental evaluation of algorithms and data structures.   Free access to all the papers.

Workshop on Analytic Algorithmics and Combinatorics (ANALCO)
Original research in the analysis of algorithms and associated combinatorial structures.   Free access to all the papers.

Data Analytics in Batch Operations - By Robert Wojewodka and Terry Blevins, ControlGlobal.com
The use of multivariate statistical data analytics will likely cause people to think in entirely new ways and address process improvement and operations with a better understanding of the process. Its use will allow operations personnel to identify and make well-informed corrections before the end of batch, and it will play a major role in ensuring that batches repeatedly hit pre-defined end-of-batch targets. Use of this methodology will allow the engineers and other operations personnel to gain further insight into the relationships between process variables and their importance in affecting product quality parameters. It also will provide additional information to help guide process control engineers to pinpoint where process control needs to be improved.

Use of Weekly Dummy Variables to Estimate Seasonality - by Ross Link
Some analytic providers use weekly dummy variables to capture seasonality in sales models. Theoretically, estimating weekly dummies jointly across all category SKUs with similar seasonal patterns can be one of the best methods of estimating seasonality. In practice, however, dummies are fit one SKU at a time. Our analysis shows that dummies in single SKU or brand models pick up other effects like price and promotions. Further, these dummies over-parameterize the model and contribute to poor holdout sample performance.

Aggregation vs. Pooling
- by Ross Link
Aggregation and pooling are subjects of debate in the marketing modeling community: we know both are important to get right yet there is wide disagreement as to what is right.

A Nifty Way To Manage Continuous Improvement
In this article, Tim Archer of The Industrial Analyst discusses the application of Learning Curve Theory to Continuous Improvement activities. This powerful but simple and inexpensive tool can help teams stay focused and on track by providing a means to assess improvements and set goals.  Learning Curve Theory has been used extensively in areas like aircraft manufacturing, but can be applied to any activity for which Continuous Improvement is feasible. Learning Curves can also save time and money! Find out the beauty of the Learning Curve and a simple 5-step methodology to assess your project and set goals.
