Adaptive
Control Systems in Marketing
by John D. C. Little
Companies try to
conduct their marketing
operations so as to respond to changing market conditions. A model of
such a process is studied for the case of setting promotion rate.
Company sales are functions of promotional spending, but the relation
changes with time. An adaptive system is devised that works as follows:
Information about sales response is collected by performing an
experiment. The experimental results are used to update a sales
response model. Promotion rate is chosen to maximize expected profit in
the next time period.

Introduction
to Fuzzy Logic using MATLAB
- by S. N. Sivanandam et al. This book gives a broad, in-depth
overview of the field of fuzzy logic. The basic principles of fuzzy
logic are discussed in detail with various solved examples. The
different approaches and solutions to the problems given in the book
are well balanced and pertinent to the fuzzy logic research projects.
Examples of the applications of fuzzy logic are also given to make the
readers understand the concept of fuzzy logic. The solutions to the
problems are programmed using MATLAB 6.0 and the simulated results are
given. The MATLAB Fuzzy Logic Toolbox is provided for easy reference.

Notes on Discrete Mathematics
- by Miguel A. Lerma, Department of Mathematics, Northwestern
University Publication Date : 2005
These notes are intended to be a summary of the main ideas in course CS
310: Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science which covers
fundamental concepts and tools in discreet mathematics with emphasis on
their applications to computer science. Topics include logic and
Boolean circuits; sets, functions, relations, databases, and finite
automata: deterministic algorithms, randomized algorithms, and analysis
techniques based on counting methods and recurrence equations; trees
and more general graphs.
Learning Goals:
At the end of the course, the student should be able to formulate logic
expressions for a variety of applications; convert a logic expression
into a Boolean circuit, and vice versa; design relational databases;
design finite automata to recognize string patterns; apply, adapt, and
design elementary deterministic and randomized algorithms to solve
computational problems; analyze the running time of non-recursive
algorithms with loops by means of counting; analyze the running time of
divide-and-conquer recursive algorithms by means of recurrence
equations; and use trees and graphs to formulate computational
problems.
Handbook of Operations Research
in Natural Resources
This will be the first systematic handbook treatment of quantitative
modeling natural resource problems, their allocated efficient use, and
societal and economic impact. Andrés Weintraub is the very
top
person in Natural Resource research. Moreover, he has an international
reputation in OR and a former president of the International Federation
of Operational Research Societies (IFORS). He has selected co-editors
who are at the top of the sub-fields in natural resources: agriculture,
fisheries, forestry, and mining. The book will cover these areas in
terms with contributions from researchers on modeling natural research
problems, quantifying data, developing algorithms, and discussing the
benefits of research implementations. The handbook will include
tutorial contributions when necessary. Throughout the book,
technological advances and algorithmic developments that have been
driven by natural resource problems will be called out and discussed.
Theory and Practice of Uncertain
Programming
Real-life decisions are usually made in the state of uncertainty
(randomness, fuzziness, roughness, etc.). How do we model optimization
problems in uncertain environments? How do we solve these models? In
order to answer these questions, this book provides a self-contained,
comprehensive and up-to-date presentation of uncertain programming
theory. It includes numerous modeling ideas, hybrid intelligent
algorithms, and various applications in transportation problem,
inventory system, facility location & allocation, capital
budgeting, topological optimization, vehicle routing problem,
redundancy optimization, and scheduling. Researchers, practitioners and
students in operations research, management science, information
science, system science, and engineering will find this work a
stimulating and useful reference.
This book provides a self-contained, comprehensive and up to date
presentation of uncertain programming theory.
