Epocrates is looking for a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis to join the team. Working together with the incumbent (a consultant with long-term and intimate knowledge of the company,) this individual will lead the business planning, forecasting and analysis of our company.

This is an extremely high profile position. You will eventually be leading a function that comprises the nerve center of corporate decision-making. Marketing decisions, potential mergers and spending all take their cues from the analysis performed by this function. The individual will be a key member of the CFO’s staff and will report directly to the CFO.

Responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and management of the FP&A function in a progressive, growing environment. This individual will be strongly motivated and a self-starter. Direct daily interaction with executive management will be the norm.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Budgeting and Planning
  • Lead and manage the development of the Annual Operating Plan for the Company and each functional area
  • Select, implement and work with a planning and budgeting system (Hyperion or other)
  • Manage forecast and budget information in the budgeting system including report writing activities to assist senior management in effective utilization and navigation of the system.
  • Supporting Departments heads with analysis
  • Provide financial and competitive components of product/pricing and margins analysis in support of the business planning process.
  • Business and tactical plan development, along with rolling forecasting
  • Assist CFO in planning and execution of operational cost analyses to enhance profitability and improve process efficiency.

Operational Management
  • Develop and implement quarterly operational review process
  • Work closely with sales, marketing and operations management in assisting efficient execution of budget and forecast commitments, including communication to management of both progress toward attainment and plans to effect course corrections as necessary.
  • Quarterly and Monthly Financial reporting (Development and reporting of KPI and Balanced Scorecard measurements, management Reporting, CFO Reports, Variance Analyses, etc)
  • Ad-Hoc Reporting and Analysis
  • Work with the Leadership Team to provide key analysis and data for business decision making.
  • Understand key business drivers and provide management with accurate, timely, and relevant information for decision-making.
  • Conduct trend analysis relating to spending and revenue patterns to prepare strategic and tactical recommendations for achieving quarterly/annual performance.
  • Communicate to senior management areas of concern and actions required to meet financial commitments.
  • Create Board and Management presentations on the Company’s performance and variance analysis to plan. Assist CEO and CFO in preparation of periodic management and board review materials.

Forecasting and Modeling
  • Financial Forecasting (one to four quarters)
  • Financial Modeling of the business (one to five years)
  • Financial Modeling of alternative scenarios

Corporate Development, Competitive and Industry Analysis
  • Competitive and benchmarking analysis
  • Valuation analysis vs industry comparables and peers
  • Analysis and comparison of industry, market, and peer performance and other ad hoc analysis and reporting as deemed necessary, including mergers and acquisitions support.
  • Perform necessary financial analysis and valuation models in support of company acquisition activities including scenario modeling, dilution analysis, portfolio analysis, and other financial due diligence analysis as may be required.

IPO Support
  • Modeling, data retrieval and analysis and provision of information to investment banks and other constituents.

Requirements include:
  • Seven to ten years corporate financial analysis experience including M&A, divestiture, corporate due diligence and valuation analysis.
  • An MBA with an undergraduate degree in finance or accountancy experience is preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills are a must
  • Strong executive presence is essential
  • Software, Internet, New Media or High-Tech experience are a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Microsoft Office applications: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Outlook
  • Hyperion Planning and Reporting or the like
  • Experience with one or more ERP systems
  • Strong Analytical and Communication Skills
  • Ability to think creatively and be self-motivated
