Job Title: Six Sigma Black Belt (Process Engineer)

Reports To: CI Manager

Job Description:
Leads continuous improvement Six Sigma Black Belt projects. Provides direction and mentoring to Green Belts throughout the business unit. Validates GB, and CI project savings targets, goals, and actual results. Drafts project charters based on data driven analysis’s of problem areas. Provides technical assistance to manufacturing, quality, design engineering and maintenance to eliminate problems and drive continuous improvement related to the manufacture of product.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Trains manufacturing associates in Lean and six sigma principles.
  • Drive continuous improvement and cost savings through application of Lean Manufacturing techniques such as 5S, SMED and poka-yoke.
  • Assist in the design of new equipment layouts, setups and timing to employ Lean and six sigma principles.
  • Work with manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality to setup SPC files for new products/processes or make changes to existing ones.
  • Responsible for work cell flow, visual factories, materials and cleanliness.  
  • Responsible for tooling and equipment purchases as necessary.  Presenting justification for capital expenses on new equipment or process improvements.
  • Provides advisory cell contact for maintenance on PM/process equipment issues.
  • Immediately report any unsafe act or condition.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Must adhere to all safety rules.
  • Must be able to work extended hours when required.

Minimum Education, Experience, and/or Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years process Industrial or manufacturing engineering experience in the automotive industry.
  • Minimum Associates degree.

Minimum Education, Experience, and/or Skills Preferred:

  • Bachelors or higher
  • Certification and/or applicable experience in Lean concepts and Six Sigma statistical tools required.
  • Computer experience required.

Competencies:

  • TRAINING: Training will be conducted on the procedures that are required to perform that job.

Job Title: Process Engineer

Reports To: Value Stream Manager

Job Description:
Provides technical assistance to manufacturing, quality, design engineering and maintenance to eliminate problems and drive continuous process improvement related to the manufacture of product.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To become the process expert. Primary contact for manufacturing on equipment and process issues including equipment downtime and production of nonconforming product.
  • Continuous improvement driver. Improve profitability of value stream through implementation of process improvements effecting scrap, labor and downtime. Drive continuous improvement and cost savings through application of Lean Manufacturing techniques such as 5S, SMED and poka-yoke.
  • Participate in product launches to ensure a smooth transition from design and launch phases into manufacturing. Develop PFMEA’s to identify and minimize any potential issues.
  • Responsible for equipment purchases as necessary including presenting justification for capital expenses on new equipment or process improvements, design and specification of equipment and standardization of equipment within manufacturing methods and safety requirements.
  • Design and manage new equipment process development, timing, budget, setup, debug and training.
  • Work with manufacturing, engineering, and quality to setup SPC files for new products/processes or make changes to existing ones.
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to work extended hours when required.
  • Must adhere to all company policies and safety rules.

Education, Experience, and/or Skills Required for Consideration as a Candidate:

  • Minimum of 5 years process or manufacturing engineering experience in the automotive industry.
  • Minimum of Associates degree in a technical field

Education, Experience and/or Skills Preferred:

  • Bachelors or higher in a technical field preferred.
  • Experience with Lean concepts and/or Six Sigma statistical tools highly desired.
  • Computer experience required. AutoCAD experience preferred.

Job Title: Continuous Improvement Process Engineer

Reports To: Stamped BU Manager

Job Description:
A “Hands-on” Engineer, to provide technical assistance and support to operations, Quality, Design Engineering and Maintenance, in order to resolve Manufacturing Issues and, to drive Continuous Process Improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To become the Process Expert. Primary contact for Manufacturing, regarding equipment and process issues, including (but not limited to) equipment downtime and production of nonconforming product.
  • Mentor. The Process Engineer will also identify opportunities for technical improvement within existing staff and assist the Business Unit manager in setting a path for them to gain the required skills and knowledge.
  • Project Management. The Process Engineer will also take responsibility for assisting with large-scale projects including design, supplier identification, fabrication, budget and timing to insure a successful launch within the required scope of the project.
  • Continuous Improvement Leader. Improve profitability and efficiencies of Value Stream, through implementation of process improvements, affecting scrap, labor and downtime. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and cost savings through application of Lean and Six Sigma Manufacturing techniques such as 5S, SMED and Error-proofing.
  • Participate in product launches to ensure a smooth transition from design and launch phases into manufacturing. Develop PFMEA’s to identify and minimize any potential issues.
  • Responsible for equipment purchases as necessary including presenting justification for capital expenses on new equipment or process improvements, design and specification of equipment and standardization of equipment within manufacturing methods and safety requirements.

  • Work with manufacturing, maintenance, and quality to setup SPC files for new products/processes or executes changes to existing ones.
  • Create, update, and maintain manufacturing Work Instructions (S.O.P.’s).  Train operators on manufacturing processes.

  • Must adhere to, and ensure that all safety rules are maintained in accordance with Industry standards (OSHA, ANSI, IEEE)
  • Must be able to work extended hours when required.

Minimum Education, Experience, and/or Skills Required:

  • Strong Technical Experience with High Tonnage presses (Gib and Hydraulic actuated), Thermo-forming applications, Robotics, and Conveyor/Roller systems.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a Manufacturing & Continuous environment requiring multi-tasking and the ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to function within cross-functional Teams, utilizing good communication skills and a “hands–on” approach within all projects.
  • Must be a strong “trouble-shooter” with a working knowledge of Hand-tools and Maintenance practices.
  • Well versed in MS Office and CAD software and applications.

Education, Experience and/or Skills Preferred:

  • 4 year technical degree (Mechanical or Industrial engineering preferred.)
  • Understanding of various types of tooling and standards preferred. (Metal stamping, steel rule dies, etc…)
  • A working knowledge of the APQP process and requirements for automotive PPAP.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six-Sigma or TPM doctrines.
