Starting with just 15 employees in 1982, the company has grown to over
600 housed in its state of the art facility. It remains privately
held.
Opportunity
While the company has long had direct and database marketing
capabilities, these have essentially been focused on the execution of
programs designed and evaluated by third parties. The management
has concluded that as a truly full service organization. The
company should build the capability to design, execute and analyze
these programs. They are building this capability with the addition of
proven talent from the industry. The Director of Database
Analysis is one of the critical roles.
Position Summary
The Director of Database Analysis will be responsible for the analysis
and management of all list functions in support of corporate direct
marketing and research activities. The Director will manage the
translation of marketing requirements to segmentation analysis,
business requirements, technical requirements, operational requirements
and post analyses in a closed loop process.
Specifically, the Director will ensure the company provides additional
value to their clients through deeper analysis of the data and offering
more opportunities to increase the impact of their efforts. This
person will oversee list definition, compilation, selection and
acquisition, list maintenance, and all quality control activities for
postal and e-commerce activities. He/she will work with data teams and
IT to ensure accurate, error-free mailing activities. The Director will
manage all related department personnel and budgets, and ensure that
the organization is operating effectively and efficiently.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Client Audience Segmentation - The Director will
lead the required segmentation research and analysis to define the key
parameters for all database marketing efforts.
- List Management and Communication Operations - The
Director will be responsible for all strategic and operational aspects
of developing lists from house files, working with outside vendors and
client files to develop prospecting lists. The Director will help
develop mailing strategies including modeling. The Director will
coordinate with the Director of Direct and Database Marketing and the
leaders of all departments that comprise Budco’s direct marketing
program. This group will develop and maintain a mail calendar of
all activities in order to coordinate activities across the company and
avoid conflicting communications to the external audiences.
- Data Quality - The Director will be responsible for
working both within the organization and with external vendors to
ensure that the data utilized is relevant, accurate, and timely. He/she
will be responsible for ongoing campaign management execution quality
and will direct corporate projects related to improving data quality
and list operations.
- Leverage Data to Better Service Clients - This
person needs to have the ability to understand the goals/objectives of
a program and provide recommendations to the clients. This may be
in the form of data to use, persons to contact, etc.
- Campaign and Operational Analysis - The Director will
work with business owners to coordinate appropriate post-campaign
analyses regarding the effectiveness of the operations, data, and list.
He/she will ensure that analyses across all involved departments are
aligned in their findings and will make continuous improvements to
effectiveness and efficiency.
- Program Operations Development and Quality Assurance
- The Director will work with all internal functions to lead
operational program functional quality, program development, and
enhancements activities. He/she will work with the IT
organization to ensure programs meet operational client
requirements..
- Department Management - The Director will be
responsible for the organizational effectiveness and efficiency of the
department.
- Ensure department is properly organized and staffed as appropriate
- Manage personnel as required
- Ensure that all operating processes are in place and operating effectively
- Develop and manage budgets

Organization
Director will report to VP Marketing and Product Development.
Key Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a proven expert in
data analysis and campaign management, ideally with companies highly
dependent on database and direct marketing. Specific requirements
include:
- Data Analysis – The candidate must have proven
skills in all aspects of direct marketing data analysis including
modeling and post-analysis.
- Campaign Management – The successful candidate
must have broad and deep experience in all aspects of list management
and campaign management for both postal and e-delivery campaigns.
They must be knowledgeable about outside list sources. Further,
they must have experience with email marketing. Finally, they must be
familiar with leading campaign management software.
- Action-Oriented Leader – The candidate must be
a motivated, proactive leader, a self-starter comfortable with working
in a high output organization. He/she must be a team player with
a can-do attitude and a get-it-done mentality that can work through and
with a wide range of individuals and departments. They must be able to
find their own way through a complex organization and take charge of
their business. And, they must perform their job with a sense of
urgency.
- Complexity – The candidate must be process and
detail oriented. They must be experienced in working with large
amounts of complicated data, because data quality is essential to the
success of the program.
- Organizational skills – This role requires the
candidate to be able to work effectively with the sales, marketing and
production organizations as well at IT, translating the needs of one
into the project requirements of the other. It will take
knowledge of and experience with all these functional areas to make
this happen efficiently. In addition, the candidate must be able
to not only manage and develop their own team, but also marshal
resources outside of the immediate team to accomplish business
goals. All this implies the ability to quickly understand the
nuances of how the organization truly functions and how to get things
done through formal and informal channels. This candidate must be
a quick study and self-starter. They must listen well, absorb and
process important information, and earn the respect and trust of others
in a new environment through honesty and commitment to teamwork.

- Solid educational background. Undergraduate degree is required.
