Modeling Engineer, Maplesoft, Waterloo, ON


Job Description
We are engaged in a project with a well known auto manufacturer to develop the next generation of physical modeling tools, and we are looking for a bright and highly-motivated individual to join our team.  In this role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that is developing new modeling and simulation tools based on the Maple system. You will be responsible for researching and implementing new techniques in the area of system modeling, model reduction and system identification.  This is a research position that will include researching the literature, developing new algorithms, as well as implementation of these algorithms.

 In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Research and develop new techniques to simplify and solve models of physical systems
  • Implement the techniques using the Maple programming language
  • Possibly create examples to illustrate the algorithms.

Experience and Qualifications
The successful candidate for this role will possess the following qualifications:

  • University degree engineering or related area (advanced degree is preferred)
  • Experience modeling physical systems as lumped parameter differential algebraic equations.
  • Knowledge of numeric techniques to solve systems of ordinary differential equations or systems of differential algebraic equations.
  • Experience with mathematical software, such as Maple or MATLAB.
  • Experience with simulation environment, such as Simulink, Dymola, or SPICE.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Five years experience is highly desirable but we encourage those with less experience and new graduates to apply.

“Nice-to-have” Skills and Qualifications
While not essential for consideration for this role, the following qualifications are considered assets for prospective candidates:

Software development skills (preferably in a larger team)  using one of the following languages: C, C++, C#, Java, Fortran, Maple, Matlab, and LabVIEW.   Familiarity with multiple operating systems, especially Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
